Amanda Strano, PsyD

Postdoctoral fellow

Dr. Amanda Strano is a postdoctoral fellow at CBC, where she provides individual, family, and group therapies to children, adolescents and adults. Amanda received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Brooklyn College. She then received her master’s degree in applied psychology and doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Long Island University – Post Campus.

Amanda has received intensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She also received intensive training and supervision in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), building on her passion for using behavioral interventions to reduce childhood anxiety and disruptive behavior while also helping parents and families function to the best of their abilities. Similarly, Amanda’s doctoral dissertation research examined parental cognitions present during behavioral parent training. Amanda uses a collaborative and compassionate approach when working with families, taking time to understand and problem-solve barriers to treatment to improve overall treatment effectiveness.

Amanda completed her APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at ANDRUS in Westchester, where she treated children, adolescents, adults, and families presenting with internalizing and externalizing symptoms such as anxiety, mood disorders, and disruptive behavior disorders (e.g., ADHD, oppositional-defiant disorder). She also co-led a DBT-informed skills group for adult women presenting with emotion dysregulation. Prior to the internship, Amanda completed a clinical externship at the Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders of Westchester (CUCARD-W), where she received specialized training in the cognitive-behavioral treatment of children and adolescents presenting with anxiety, mood and disruptive behavior disorders. In addition, Amanda conducted exposure therapy and exposure and response prevention (Ex/RP) for youth with anxiety and OCD. Amanda also completed a clinical externship at New York Foundling, where she provided individual and family therapy to high-risk youth and families in the foster care system.

Amanda’s research interests include examining parental cognition to more effectively problem solve treatment barriers, increase treatment adherence, and ultimately improve outcomes. Amanda is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA).
