Andy Sickles, M.A., M.S., is a pre-doctoral psychology intern at CBC where he conducts individual, family, and group therapy with children, adolescents, and adults. Andy is a fifth-year student in the Combined School-Clinical Child Psychology Doctoral Program at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan, his M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from New York University, and his M.S. in School Psychology from Yeshiva University. He has received intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for children, adolescents, and adults. He works with a range of patients, including those with anxiety and mood disorders, emotion regulation difficulties, behavior issues, trauma, self-harm and family conflicts.
Prior to working at CBC, he was a clinical psychology extern at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Westchester Behavioral Health Center on both the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Units, specializing in anxiety and mood disorders. He utilized evidence-based interventions for children and adolescents with severe anxiety and mood disorders, emotion regulation difficulties, behavior issues, extensive trauma, identity issues, and family conflicts in both group and individual settings. Previously, Andy also worked at the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy, primarily providing psychotherapy from a CBT framework, with a specialty in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) utilizing Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). He conducted both individual and group therapy with both adolescents and adults. Andy also completed an externship at a public elementary school in Rye, NY, where he provided individual counseling and conducted comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations.
Andy’s doctoral research examines the relationship between anxiety and the working memory and processing speed components of the WISC-V intelligence test in children and adolescents.
