Dena Klein is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the use of cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with adults, children, adolescents, and families. She has particular expertise in the assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, behavioral disorders, learning disabilities and personality disorders.
Depending on the needs of the case, Dr. Klein provides treatment in a variety of modalities, including individual, family, parent training and group. Using empirically supported approaches, Dr. Klein aims to bring about symptom relief and positive life changes in a supportive non-judgmental manner.
Prior to joining the staff at CBC, Dr. Klein served five years as an Attending and Supervising Psychologist and the Director of Psychological Assessment Services in the Child Outpatient Psychiatry Department and Adolescent Depression and Suicide Program at Montefiore Medical Center. She provided CBT and DBT to youth and their families presenting with a range of emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Additionally, she co-developed and led an adaptation of the Adolescent Coping with Depression group therapy program for teens suffering from depression. Dr. Klein continues to serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she teaches and supervises psychology externs and interns.
Dr. Klein graduated with High Distinction from the University of Michigan and earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She completed her pre and postdoctoral training at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Klein gained extensive clinical and research experience as a clinical psychologist in major medical centers and academic institutions in the New York area, including Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Klein is an active member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the American Psychological Association. She has co-authored professional articles and book chapters and presented research at national conferences on topics including depression, borderline personality disorder, suicidality and non-suicidal self-injury, social and emotional learning, and social support.
Lastly, Dr. Klein also gives presentations and workshops to mental health practitioners, school personnel, and students, on various topics including CBT for depression, CBT for disruptive behavior disorders, non-suicidal self-harm and suicidality, and DBT for multi-problem adolescents.
