Joseph Taliercio, PhD

Coordinator of Research

Dr. Joseph Taliercio is the coordinator of research and a licensed staff psychologist at CBC where he conducts individual, family and group therapies with children, adolescents, adults and families. Joseph is intensively trained in both Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Joseph specializes in the application of evidence-based treatments in managing a range of problematic behaviors and disorders, including mood dysregulation, self-harm, suicidality, trauma, behavioral difficulties, psychosis, interpersonal communication, physical health, and self-esteem. Joseph earned his bachelor’s degree from Fordham University, while serving as the Associate Director for the university’s EMS agency. He later earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University, where he also taught courses on social psychology and behavioral neuroscience.

Having acquired clinical training within the New York metropolitan area, Joseph utilizes a multicultural and systems approach style with each client, which considers demographic, historical, and cultural influences, in order to ensure treatment is tailored for the individual. Further, his treatment approach also incorporates evolutionary and clinical-health psychology perspectives.

Joseph completed his predoctoral internship with the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine at NYC Health and Hospital’s Elmhurst Hospital Center. As a psychology intern, Joseph rotated through varied clinical settings within the hospital, including forensic, inpatient, primary care, psychiatric ER, and outpatient settings. Further, while on internship, he conducted psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, assisted with conducting assessments through the Libertas Center for Human Rights, and continued working within the hospital during the New York peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the completion of his internship, Joseph completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at CBC. In addition, prior to internship, Joseph completed two predoctoral externships during his graduate training; the first at Hofstra University’s Student Counseling Center, and the second with Zucker Hillside’s Hospital geriatric psychiatry services.

As a researcher, Joseph maintains interest in the integration of physical and mental healthcare, including the therapeutic potential of nutrition, sleep hygiene, and physical activity in encouraging mental wellbeing. While a student at Hofstra, he was also an active member of the Serious and Persistent Mental Illness Program research laboratory, which focused on psychosis and related treatments. For his doctoral dissertation, Joseph examined the associations between sleep hygiene, physical activity, and schizophrenia symptom severity within inpatient and outpatient settings. Joseph is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), and is credentialed as a Health Service Psychologist through the National Register.
