Laura Cyran, M.S., is a pre-doctoral psychology intern at CBC where she conducts individual, family, and group therapies with children, adolescents, and adults. She is currently a fifth-year doctoral student in the School Psychology program at St. John's University and specializes in the practice of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Laura earned her bachelor's degree from Barnard College, where she graduated with a major in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. She earned a master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University, with a clinical concentration and specialization in children and families. She also holds a master's degree in School Psychology from St. John's University.
Laura has been intensively trained in both CBT and DBT. Laura completed a predoctoral externship at CBC, delivering evidence-based interventions across the lifespan with patients who have mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, emotional dysregulation, as well as self-harm behaviors. Prior to her externship at CBC, Laura worked as a school psychology extern in the Ardsley, NY, school district, serving the elementary and high schools. There, she performed psychoeducational assessment, group and individual counseling, consultation, behavioral intervention, progress monitoring, and social-emotional learning. She was also a clinician at the St. John’s University Center for Psychological Services, a community-based mental health clinic, where she provided comprehensive psychoeducational assessments and evidence-based therapeutic interventions with children and adolescents presenting with a variety of emotional and behavioral difficulties.
In addition to clinical work, Laura is actively involved with the CBC research and program evaluation team. She is also a research assistant in a developmental psychology lab investigating adolescent peer relationships and social withdrawal and served as a Doctoral Research Fellow in the St. John's Infancy Research Lab, where she investigated infant learning and memory. Laura also enjoys sharing her love of research with undergraduates through teaching an Experimental Psychology course to students at Hunter College and assisting with an undergraduate research seminar at St. John's.
Laura is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Psychological Science (APS), Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science (SIPS), Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). She has presented her research at national and international conferences.
