Help your children resume academic momentum during Covid-19:
CBC’s virtual executive functioning program will support you and your child as you navigate online studies and anxiety during this challenging time
New virtual program will help parents & students with Executive Functioning while at home. Developing routines, establishing priorities, time management, coping with stress and overcoming challenges will be covered.
As we navigate this time of stress and uncertainty, we know many families are struggling to develop a new routine that works. If you find that you are having difficulty working from home, managing household responsibilities, and supporting your children academically, CBC can help. As part of our tele-health executive functioning program, we are offering sessions targeted towards the following:
Like all of CBC’s programs, our virtual executive functioning sessions incorporate evidence-based strategies. Sessions are typically conducted on an individual basis but may also be conducted within a group. Parent sessions are also available to help parents learn skills they can use to guide and support their children. A 60 minute tele-health consultation session will first be scheduled to help identify needs and to develop an effective coaching plan. Following that, tele-health sessions will be scheduled for youth and/or parents based on identified needs.

Executive functioning support at CBC takes place within several contexts, including individual sessions, groups, and workshops for parents. Individual treatment focuses on planning, time management, starting and completing tasks, breaking tasks into steps, creating a schedule, and organization. Specific goals are tailored to the needs of the individual and may pertain to academics, work, or managing a household. As part of individual treatment, the therapist is able to identify and address cognitions and emotions that may be hindering productivity. Therapists also work with patients to identify what motivates them and collaborate with parents and families so that they may enable the patient to achieve his/her goals.
Aside from individual treatment, we also offer executive functioning groups for high school students and young adults. Groups run for eight weeks and cover organization, planning, and task management skills. These weekly programs teach new skills and also facilitate skills practice in between sessions, to ensure generalization to the outside environment, while providing the support of other students who struggle with similar issues. Participants will be encouraged to discuss assignments and tasks they are currently struggling to complete, such as preparing for the SAT/ACT, studying for exams, breaking down projects, and balancing extracurricular activities with academics. They will learn new skills while completing their own assignments. The high school group includes sessions focused on supporting parents to help build these skills in their teens, while the young adult group also covers topics related to independent living.
Lastly, CBC offers executive functioning workshops for parents, schools, and community organizations. Workshops focus on giving parents and teachers the tools necessary to support their students and children’s development of these life skills.
